Jeremiah 29:11

"For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."

Life Without Mom

So I realized as I pulled out the dang thing that I have no idea how to use a can opener.
Called Mom. No answer.
Next try, youtube.
I found a video that used the exact can opener.
SINCE TODAY AMERICA!
She made it look easy, but guess who still couldn't figure it out. Uh huh. Me.
Next I youtubed "alternate" ways to open a can.
I don't have a huge knife, so I tried the spoon way.
Yeah not so much.
So I pulled out my knife and started hacking.

I miss Mom.

Homesick.

Quiet time.
In a tree.
Eating my dinner.
[goldfish, capri sun, apple]
Reading my Bible.
Talking to God.
It's what I needed.
More than anything.
Homesickness settled in for a bit.
Owen kept me company though and we walked down to the Daily Grind for some coffee and chit chat.
Company was the perfect remedy.

L + M

Today was a Maffew day. I've missed those.
We started with a campus tour, which ended up turning into a search for food.
Old European was our dining of choice. I hit up some aebleskivers. So delicious.
We went back to my room for some good old fashioned chit chat, then headed out to explore the CUB.
Then we picked up Teea and drove out to see the bears. Real bears on our campus! So sweet haha
Next was Reaney park to try out the awesome chair swing, slide, tire swing, and climbed a tree :)
Back to Teea's to watch a movie. We ordered pizza and watched a gorgeous sunset.
Sad to have to say goodbye a second time.
I hate goodbyes.

Recap:

Thursday:

Pita Pit for the first time. So extremely delicious. And very close to my dorm :)
...
Kelsey and I had our first dinner making adventure. It will be a tradition, it's just a matter of perfecting it now.
We went to the grocery store and bought fresh veggies to steam in the rice cooker.
After waiting 40 minutes for the bus (I'm very dissapointed in our busing system here), we got back to the room and attempted to steam them. The rice was already cooked though so it didn't really work. So guess what! Plain rice for dinner! haha
...
Next was Campus Crusade. The people were so welcoming and genuine. The worship was fantastic, and the message was relavent. I'm excited to get to know people better, and to start a small group :)

Friday:

Classes
...
Work. I had the whole room to myself today. It was perfect. I turned on some music and started designing away :)
...
Skype date with Jessi, and then with Michael haha
...
Some beach V-ball came next. I hadn't played in so long and it was actually pretty fun.
...
The most intense hilarious game of Mafia. I was laughing the entire time, it was so funny.
Best line of the night: "She's young, she's pretty, she's gonna have a taser." Perfect accusation.
...
Star Trek (which I fell asleep during. I hadn't had a nap today. It was necessary) and then got a ride back home.
...
Drunk people were everywhere on the ride home, it makes me sad. That kind of life won't satisfy them forever. Only God can.

{You're the straw to my berry}

You can be the peanut butter to my jelly
You can be the butterflies I feel in my belly
You can be the captain and I can be your first mate
You can be the chills that I feel on our first date

You can be the hero and I can be your side kick
You can be the tear that I cry if we ever split
You can be the rain from the cloud when it's stormin'
Or you can be the sun when it shines in the mornin'

Don't know if I could ever be
Without you cause boy you complete me
And in time I know that we'll both see
That we're all we need

Cause you're the apple to my pie
You're the straw to my berry
You're the smoke to my high
And you're the one I wanna marry

Cause your the one for me (for me)
And I'm the one for you (for you)
You take the both of us (of us)
And we're the perfect two

We're the perfect two
We're the perfect two
Baby me and you
We're the perfect two

You can be the prince and I can be your princess
You can be the sweet tooth and I can be the dentist
You can be the shoes and I can be the laces
You can be the heart that I spill on the pages

You can be the vodka and I can be the chaser
You can be the pencil and I can be the paper
You can be as cold as the winter weather
But I don't care as long as we're together

Don't know if I could ever be
Without you cause boy you complete me
And in time I know that we'll both see
That we're all we need

Cause you're the apple to my pie
You're the straw to my berry
You're the smoke to my high
And you're the one I wanna marry

Cause your the one for me (for me)
And I'm the one for you (for you)
You take the both of us (of us)
And we're the perfect two

We're the perfect two
We're the perfect two
Baby me and you
We're the perfect two

Adorable Song. Simple as that.

{Heaven is a Place}

1 Corinthians 2:9
...No eye has seen,
no ear has heard,
no mind has conceived
what God has prepared for those
WHO LOVE HIM...

Heaven is the face of a little girl
With dark brown eyes
That disappear when she smiles.
Heaven is the place
Where she calls my name
Says, “Daddy please come play with me for awhile.”

Chorus:
God, I know, it's all of this and so much more,
But God, You know, that this is what I'm aching for.
God, you know, I just can't see beyond the door.
So right now...
Heaven is the sound of her breathing deep,
Lying on my chest, falling fast asleep while I sing.
And Heaven is the weight of her in my arms,
Being there to keep her safe from harm while she dreams

And God, I know, it's all of this and so much more,
But God, You know, that this is what I'm longing for
God, you know, I just can't see beyond the door.

Bridge:
But in my mind's eye I can see a place
Where Your glory fills every empty space.
All the cancer is gone,
Every mouth is fed,
And there's no one left in the orphans' bed.
Every lonely heart finds their one true love,
And there's no more goodbye,
And no more not enough,
And there's no more enemy (no more).

Heaven is a sweet, maple syrup kiss
And a thousand other little things I miss with her gone.
Heaven is the place where she takes my hand
And leads me to You,
And we both run into Your arms.

Oh God, I know, it's so much more than I can dream.
It's far beyond anything I can conceive.
So God, You know, I'm trusting You until I see
Heaven in the face of my little girl,
Heaven in the face of my little girl.

First Day of Work

...
Soon, I will be able to design that.
I learned so many things today, and started on a poster of my own.
Steph gave me guidance because I am unfamiliar with all my resources and such.
But I learned so much today, and will be starting another project tomorrow.
This time, all by myself. How exciting :)

First Day of School.

Classes:
First class was Chem 105.
We exploded a balloon.
It was like no other balloon explosion I've ever experienced.
I could feel it from the back of the room.
Math 171 was good, except my teacher is hard to understand.
Like I kept thinking she was going off in another language.
That will take a bit getting used to.
Gen Ed teacher was pretty funny.
Said that if our phone's ring during class, we're
required to answer them.
That's new haha.
English 101 was my last class of the day.
I love my teacher, so I'm excited even though I hate writing.

Embassy BBQ:
Homemade Lasagna, salad, fresh mango, Sun Chips, and burgers.
We ate on real plates, with real siverware, and glass cups.
Felt the most like home since I've been here. I loved it :)
Got a full tour of the house from Gabe.
The green room, fishbowl room, and the crack.
The shower is refered to as the gas chamber,
and I finally saw the small crawlspace that someone once lived in when my dad stayed there.
Absolutely hilarious. Getting to know some more of my dad's past was awesome,
I met great people, and heard great stories :)

Last Day of Summer.

Video chat with the parentals,
aren't they just so cute :)

Puke Bubble Balls

Runthrough of my classes today with Sami.
We headed on a little adventure to find the buildings our classes are in.
All of mine are relatively close together which be extremely convenient.
Foosball at Stimpson after meeting Tyson and Ethan's roomates.
Taco Del Mar for lunch, then Teea and I decided to check out the busing system.
It took about a year to get to Dismores and back, but it was a fun little adventure.
We tried bubble tea. This was no ordinary bubble tea. The bubbles were the size of marbles.

Squishy, flavorless, grossness. So entertaining when you're waiting for a bus :)

Met up with the Colby gang for a bit. Nick assured me he wants to come to WSU next year,
so my little brother will be within walking distance!
Ice blocking, a tour of Joey DiDesidero's amazing house, and then some intense Ultimate Frisbee.
Ended the night with Zombieland (I was so grossed out lol), and a hot shower.
Just another busy day of a college student.
Laurel Adami.
Out.

Put Your Records On

Started out my day with a run down to Reaney Park.
I didn't realize how far I was running since getting there is all downhill.
Coming back sucked haha
After convocation and another Skype sesh with Jessi,
midway I got a phone call and found out I got the job at the Image Shop!
Sam and I headed to check out The Thrift Shop.
I found a really cute sweatshirt,
and as we were leaving we picked up about eight old records for free!
I put the covers up on my bare wall above my desk.

I am more than satisfied.
Sounds of Music, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Chicago, Mary Poppins, and Flip Wilson?
Legit times a thousand. That's all I have to say :)
Off to watch a soccer game from the Balcony of the Scott dorms next.
It was insanely hot, so we left to meet up with the Schlect family at our room.
Next was the Lentil Festival.
I bought a ring made out of the handle of a spoon!

The lentil chili was cooked in this huge cooking pot; we were extremely impressed.

After roaming the festival we headed back up and checked out Resonate.
I made some friends and without even knowing it ended up sitting next to two people who went to Hanford High!
Small world. I think yes.
Stimson hall after that to check out Tyson's room (it's practically an apartment),
and then off to Teea's dorm to begin the movie night.
What started out to be just the three of us, ended up with eight people. It was fun meeting new faces.
I've made so many new friends in the last few days, it's unbelievable.
The Last Song is a great movie. What can I say?
I would be attracted too lol.
We fit 7 of us in the car and were shuttled back to our dorm for the night.
What a great day.
God is good :)

TEAM EXTREME REUNION!

We had our first reunion today :)
After my camera and I meandered around campus for a bit,
I met up with Kelsey and we headed to the dining hall to meet up with the group.
After tons of laughs we headed out on our scavenger hunt which ended up at Ferdinands.
Best ice cream of my life.
Headed off to a job interview after that.
I believe it went well, we'll see.
I should get a call in the next couple days.
Then I went back to my room, chatted with Mom on the phone, took a short nap,
and then headed off to a bbq.
I met some wonderful people and had great food.
After the bbq I took Teea and Kelsey to the YoungLife house and Judy gave us a tour.
Everytime I go there it makes me want to stay there more and more.
We lounged on the deck on Kelsey's dorm to watch the sunset,
then headed to catch the bus to Shopko.
Screamin deals?
I think not.
But I did get paper towels and some candy bars.
Necessary things haha
Another great day in college.
Can't wait for tomorrow :)

Wednesday, August 18, 2010

Hello.

Meet the new dorm room.
Something still must be done about the walls,
but don't worry they'll be jazzed up soon.
I love my dorm room.
It is so old and quirky vintage and darling.
It fits me perfect and I couldn't ask for anything better.
The move went smoothly and we spent most of the day shopping for stuff we forgot.
It was a difficult goodbye.
My family and I are very close.
I'm blessed to have that.
Jessi and I had our first Skype date.
It worked better than I thought it would,
and I think it will be a good way for us to catch up and stay in touch during our busy college lives.

Goodbye.

Goodbye room.
Goodbye house.
Goodbye Tri-Cities.
Goodbye best friend.
Today was rough.
Saying goodbye to Jessi was really hard.
We held each other and cried.
And promised that things wouldn't change.
We're going separate ways for 4 years,
but it's just stage 2 of our friendship.
The skyping-letter-writing stage.
Stage 3 of course will be when we get married to our wonderful husbands,
and move into cute little houses next door to each other :)
But for now we're at stage 2.
And I miss her.

Sisterhood #2

Photoshoot today with Jess and Meryn.
It was so much fun! Just hangin out with my best friends :)
Jessi night tonight.
Our last hangout sesh before I leave for college.
We hung out with old friends, and enjoyed star tripping, my new favorite game.
We rented The Last Song 5 minutes after it was released haha
Love that movie, even with Miley Cyrus :P
Good times and lots of laughs with the best friend.
She means the world to me, and I'm so glad God put her in my life.

Sisterhood #1

Plan: All nighter.
11 pm.

Other than that it will suck.

Bears. Beets. Battlestar Galactica.

Took Edward's senior pictures this morning.
Alex tagged along and it was a blast.
They're both so goofy, we were laughing the whole time.
Packing started today.
It's so weird to pack up my room.
It's not like leaving for vacation,
it's taking EVERYTHING.
So stressful. I'm glad I have my family to help me.

Let's see who can do the most tricks.

...
Nick clearly won haha
I finally gave him his promised boat ride today.
He scootered over to the house in his home-made tank top and we headed to the river.
Before we started tubing we decided we would have a competition to see who could do the coolest tricks.
He won. He had me laughing the whole time so in my defense I was slightly disabled.
I'm gonna miss dearest Nickolass when I leave.
He's the lil bro I never had.
...
Hit up the Renards after boating to see Victoria before she left.
Had an interesting sister bonding sesh when I discovered there was a poppyseed stuck in my teeth.
Meryn pulled out a piece of her hair and flossed it out for me.
What will I ever do without her :(
...
Adventure time with Matt tonight.
It's the last time we'll get to hang out before I leave. Sad.
Rocked out to some classic Relient K.
I still can't believe I know all the words to their songs.
We bought a delicious frozen lemonade cup and ate it down by the river.
Almost got sprayed by a skunk and sprinklers,
and saw three shooting stars.
I'm gonna miss Maffew.
California is too far away.
...
