{If I had my way}

If I had my way, I would go back to 16,
I would know the things that I know now,
And take them back in time,
I would do things more slowly,
And purposefully,
I, would take time to make up my mind,
And I’d tell you when I’m sorry,
I’d never smoke a cigarette cuz they’re no good for me,
I’d never drink too much, cuz it makes me lose my sanity,
I’d listen to my teachers, and my parents more,
Cuz they’re the people in my life who truly care for me.
If I had my way,
I’d gladly go the extra mile,
Not out of obligation,
But because I wanted to,
I’d smell the roses for a while,
Flash the world a smile,
I’d be a safe place you could run to,
And time with me would be worthwhile,
I would spend more time with children,
Cuz they see things so clearly,
I’d let others see me try,
And not be so afraid of failing,
I’d treat everyone the same,
And remember everybody’s name,
I’d see the whole and not the part,
I would be so very smart, always.
So many things I’d change,
But the truth that I am told,
Is not the same as things I learned the hard way.
Why do I learn the hard way?
If I had my way,
My whole family would know Jesus,
My life would scream with truth and love,
and the freedom that they need,
we’d face the tragedies singin,
lost be the ties that bind us,
cuz there’s so much good that we can share,
let’s leave the past behind us.
We wouldn’t let our fears control us,
We’d see through every disguise,
We’d write books and poetry,
That would impact other people’s lives,
We’d speak the truth and love,
That’s what family is for,
I wouldn’t have to make them laugh,
To keep the peace, anymore.
If I had my way.
There’s some things I would change.

  2. I love this song and like it even better now that I read the words not just heard them. I am such a visual person.
